Photostory Friday - Sewing Apnea!

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

My grandmother was a seamstress and my mother has picked up quite a bit from her so I'm hoping the sewing gene is in me too. I've never learnt how to sew and my mother didn't do much of it when we were growing up in the house but I really enjoy it. I make up my own techniques as I go along and end up with less than perfect creations but I always find it so fulfilling. The main problem is that I hold my breath whenever I step on the sewing machine pedal and I always end up with a headache after awhile!

I don't have a sewing machine in Palembang so I'm hoping to make use of my mother's one while I'm here. This is what I made for my mother.

Its a type of tote that closes up without zips or buttons. Not quite perfect but I'll be making another one for myself so at least I'll know where the pitfalls are.

Funny title!
Think how much better you would be if you didn't pass out every few minutes!

That is cute! I too come from a family of seamstresses and have yet to learn! I want to so bad, and I have a machine, but I don't even know how to thread it!

I've often wished the sewing gene hides inside of me too. Finding the time to sew is probably more of the problem. ;)

Your tote looks great. I like the idea of no zips and buttons. Cute fabric too.

Start cranking them out. You've found a second career. You need a name for your company now. Sticking with the 'A' theme, how about "Always Amanda"?

I'd say you have the sewing gene. That's pretty cool. :) Too funny about holding your breath.

I'd say the gene definitely passed on to you.

That looks like a great bag! My maternal grandmother and my mother were, and my sister and Agnes are superb seamstresses. Agnes has made many of her ball gowns, in addition to many of her clothes, shirts for me, quilts, baby clothes, and all sorts of stuff. As for me, I can usually sew buttons back on without attaching them to my finger instead of the fabric.

Love the bag. My sewing skills are limited to straight lines!
