I was a little disoriented when I opened up one of the drawers in my old room and found these:
Then I remembered. My prized possessions from the 1990s teenage years. This is just one drawer full, there are others. Gloria Estafan, New Kids on the Block, MILLI VANILLI (!!!) I don't even have a player for them now but they're still around. I'm sure that the same fate awaits the CDs I now have piled around the place. As it is, iPods, cellphones with mp3s, music through the internet and all sorts of other avenues to listen to the latest tracks are becoming more and more convenient and affordable.
But back to those cassettes? Do you still have any? What would you do with them? Throw them out? What if you don't have CD versions of them? Go download? Do you even want to listen to Vanilla Ice today????
Do you see the mixed tapes in the photo? Those were the craze back then. Make them yourself, get your friends to make them, or copy the ones that your friends have already made. Also, anytime some guy had a crush on you....you're BOUND to get one of those! I even remember one with the guy singing!

It could be worse...you could have found a pile of 8-track tapes! Or 78-rpm records, like I have stacked up at home, waiting to be digitized. I enjoy reading your blog...hope you have a good day! Best wishes, Bilbo.
Normally we just store them away until they become antiques....wonder how much will they be worth 20 years from now??
I am in luck, because my car actually still has a casette player. I know, impressive. I can listen to the old mixed tapes on the way to work and remember the good old days...not that I do that, but I could :)
You liked New Kids on the Block too! I thought I was the only one.
Yes, I have lots of them, but no player. Technoly has overtaken them.
LOL! This is certainly a blast from the past! I think I might have couple of tapes that you gave me -- Kylie Minogue and Whitney Houston -- stored somewhere in my sister's basement in Canada. And yes, I did get those compilations too.
Oh, I love the 80s music and I still listen to them. I'm a total cheeseball.
i come a little bit later cause i was too young then to buy my own. but not too young to appreciate them! my brother had all those vanilla ice, milli vanilli, bolshoi brothers, duran duran, david bowie etc.
when i was in highschool, a compilation of burned CD was the surest way to flatter a girl.
Is that one of the MIXED TAPES that I gave you??
So it looks like I'm not the only one hanging on to those old memories.
Clothes from the past seem to be making a comeback but I guess it really is the end of the road for cassettes (and 8 track tapes!) since there really is no sense in re-inventing something that doesn't sound as good.
Oh my gosh.. I still have my New Kids on The Block DVD from back then.. And I also have a few books of them too. I can't believe how crazy I was about them. The feelings are not mutual now... However, i do think that Mark Wahlberg (Donnie's Brother) is so much cuter now adays. You wanna borrow my DVD and books, Amanda?
LOL! NKOTB! Remember how how our rooms looked at that time?
